Touch the leather. Smell the olive leaves. Take the story home.

BMW In 2013, BMW made Olivenleder® the first olive-tanned leather ever used in automotive series production — for the BMW i3. It was the car that proved luxury and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive. Since then, BMW has continued to use Olivenleder® across its electric range, including the iX. The courage to take that first step started an entire movement.

Pininfarina Automobili The Battista is the most powerful car ever designed and built in Italy — 1,900 hp, pure electric, limited to 150 units, starting at $2.2 million. Every single one features an interior with leather tanned using olive leaves. Pininfarina chose Olivenleder® as part of their commitment to sustainable luxury — proving that the world’s most exclusive hypercar and the world’s most responsible leather belong together. The hides are sourced close to the Cambiano factory in Italy and hand-stitched by Pininfarina’s own craftspeople.

Škoda With the Enyaq iV, Škoda brought Olivenleder® to the volume market — making sustainable leather interiors accessible, not exclusive. Around 215,000 olive leaves go into the tanning extract for a single Enyaq. Every car with the EcoSuite interior carries a small tag on the seats: „Eco Olive Leather.“

Automotive interiors deserve better. The surface your customers touch every day should be safe — not just compliant.

Daniele Biolo, Silvateam

Lorenzo Tribuzio

Daniele grew up in his grandfather’s tannery in Italy — on forklifts before he could walk, jumping on leather piles with his brother. He studied leather technology at Northampton University and has been with Silvateam since 2018. Today, he coordinates the leather operation between Italy and China: scouting the market, developing recipes on site, and bringing innovation directly to tanneries across Asia.

„If you start working with Silvateam, you gain innovation and a team that is going to support you throughout all the development. This is not something very common to find in the Asian market.“

Lorenzo wanted to be a pilot. He couldn’t afford flight school, so he enrolled at the nearest school to home — which happened to be a leather school. A teacher convinced him by saying: „Technicians travel the world.“ He’s been with Silvateam for 25 years now.

Today, Lorenzo is the person who decides whether a new product is ready for the market. He develops recipes, coordinates technicians worldwide, and works directly in tanneries — not behind a desk. Some customers trust him so much they hand him their R&D access badge.

„I get something which is basically a discharge of the meat industry. And when I put it back, it’s something beautiful. From something useless to something amazing, long-lasting, sustainable. That’s why I love it.“

Thomas Lamparter

The driving force behind Olivenleder®. Thomas comes from a family that has been in the tanning trade for ten generations. His career spans the automotive leather value chain — from Eagle Ottawa to Mercedes-AMG to Bader Leather. Today he leads wet-green, the company that developed the patented olive-tanning technology now used by BMW, Porsche, and Volkswagen.
